  • Neda Agha Soltan Didn't Have a Gun

Neda Agha Soltan didn't have a gun.
She wasnt brandishing a deadly weapon.
    She wasnt threatening anyone's life
    Just their authority.

Neda Agha Soltan was demanding a more open democracy
Something we have struggled for in this country
She didn't want to have her vote taken away
She didn't want an autocrat to have the final say.
She was hoping Iran would be free some day

The people who saw the shooter chased him down!
Pulled him off his motorbike to face her body on the ground.
He was a member of the Basij

A voluntary military that was once revolutionary.
    Now they're loyal to Khameini.
    Who rules autocratically.

The Basij defended Iran from Iraq when Saddam launched a vicious attack.
Now they're attacking people in the street
    In their own country
    Because they non-violently and defiantly
Resist Khameini's authority to pick the presidency unilaterally

The shooter said he didn't mean to kill her!
    He showed signs of regret.
"It was just a warning shot," He said.
His warning shot left an unarmed woman dead.

I have never been to Iran and I am no expert. I would like to know what other people think, is my poem accurate

Me Singing the Dixie Chicks' "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" at the Green Bean Coffee House. I liked the Dixie Chicks before they outed themselves as liberals. They are great musicians and they always hae a great band. But now that they are standing up for their principles, I only like them more.

    "Lyin Eyes" by the Eagles.
I love this song because it  has a nice melody and like many Eagles songs, a unique chord progression.

    "Kill Me Down The Road"
I have heard Jim Hinde sing this song a hundred times at the Pike Place Market. It was easy for me to memorize it and keep it alive.

    "Heather is Beautiful"
This is my chick song. Women have gotten out of their cars to tip this song. While singing the "Donna is Beautiful' version Donna came up on stage and kissed me. I didn't even know she was in the audience.
I was playing my mandolin at the bus stop and a woman smiled at me. I said hi and she walked on by, then she came back. We talked for a minute and she told me her name, Lizzie. I sang her "Lizzie is Beautiful."
When she left she hugged me. I sing it for Paulette too.
